I have been using the iWatch Cycle Tracking app and when reviewing the data in the Activity App on my iPhone 7, the distance and speed are missing as if GPS isn't working. I have the phone in my jersey pocket along for the ride and the map data is there which would require GPS so I am stumped. All other data is present. The distance and speed sections say “Distance Off”.

I've searched and queried for a clue to fix this to no avail. Can someone who is familiar with this point me in the right direction to get it to work?

    Many thanks...

I'm thinking the iWatch cycling app does not communicate with Activity? But, Activity should track mileage and speed since it captures the route on the map. It needs GPS to accomplish that so it appears my question is why Activity isn't showing mileage and speed. Perhaps not for this forum? But I would think others are using the watch app and Activity together. I'll standby...

Are you using the Workout app on the Apple Watch, or a third party app. If so, which?

With third party apps you have to make sure they can read and/or write data to the health app. Each category in the Health app is enabled separately. Check Settings > Health and select the app to turn on/off what it can access. There is a Cycling Distance metric that you’re app will need to both read and write to.

Thank you for hour reply. I’m using the Apple iWatch Workout App on the iWatch.

No idea why it’s not tracking distance then. Even if the watch does not have a GPS, the one in the iPhone should take care of it. The only thing I can think of that might affect it is if Location Services were turned off in Settings > Privacy, but that should affect a lot of other things as well.

On general principle; If you have not done so recently, shut down and restart your Apple Watch and iPhone.

The funny thing is, I have a Mac-Mini, a Macbook Air and an iPad I use on a daily basis. I always shut them down and restart them in the morning just, as you said, on general principal - a long-standing computing habit. In this, I realized I rarely restart my iPhone or iWatch. Double Duh.

    Glad that worked.

I have to admit, I’ve gotten pretty lazy about restarting my devices too. I generally wait until they act funny, seem slow, or there is an update. This despite once recommending a weekly restart, on general principle.
