Apple has announced today that the first generation Apple Watch will not be getting the watchOS 5 update. That’s a supported lifespan of just over 3 years.

I have had users in other Facebook pages state the original watch will stop working. I said it will stay on iOS 4 and still function. And sync apps as usual. If the watch is reset I would assume it will install watch os4

Just like other Apple devices that can no longer run the latest version of the operating system, I’d expect the original Apple Watch to be updatable to and work on the latest compatible version of Watch OS.

Earlier today Apple announced that watchOS 5 will be released to the public this coming Monday. All Apple Watches with the exception of the series 0 will be able to update.

Earlier today Apple released watchOS 5.1.3 to the general public. You can update by opening the Watch app on your iPhone and going to General>Software Update. The update will show there and you can tap the update button to start the download.

This update is available to all but the original Series 0 Apple Watch.
