I’m running iOS 15 Public Beta 4, and my Apple Watch Series 6 is on WatchOS 7.6.
WatchOS 7.6.1 has been out since the 29th, and my watch app is insistent that I’m on the latest release.

Anyone else using iOS 15 Beta4 not being allow an update to WatchOS 7.6.1?
If not, then I might just try the WatchOS 8 Beta.

Have you tried updating watchOS on the Apple Watch itself? You don’t have to do it through the watch app on your iPhone if you don’t want to. This apple help page tells you how to do the update directly through the Apple Watch as well as through the Watch app. Scroll down the page until you reach the section on updating on the Watch itself. Yes, unfortunately I’ve tried both updating from the phone and updating from the watch and both ways are telling me the watch is already up to date.
I’ve also tried a reboot of the watch and then tried the above again, and still no go.

I think I might have to get some advice from Apple.

I’m not sure there is a public beta out for the watch, but if there is you probably have to register the watch on Apple’s site. Just registering the phone might not work.

Time to put my hand up now and say it was my fault!
Whilst checking through all the watch settings on my phone again I came across a Watch software beta profile installed which honestly, hand on heart, I have no recollection of downloading.

Maybe I inadvertently downloaded it whilst downloading the iOS 15 beta profile, I have no idea. But it was that profile that was stopping the WatchOS 7.6.1 download.

    All fine now
