Something occurred to us while watching the Apple Watch part of Apple's keynote. They never explicitly stated that the Apple Watch had any type of IP67 certification (meaning water-resistant or dust-resistant). We can't imagine wearing a $350+ device on your wrist that would be easily destroyed by a bit of rain. Was this an over-sight on the part of the presenters, or will only specific versions of the device have water resistance?

It's important to note that there will be three different models of device: the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport Apple Watch Edition. We wonder if they will all end up with some form of water protection, or if only some of them will.

Also, it's worth observing that one of the pics Apple showed of the Apple Watch depicted an athlete splashing the device with water dripping down from his face (shown above). This implies there will be some protection. Share your thoughts?

I'm guessing water resistant as well. I would think anything less would be a problem.

Definitely. I'd be very surprised if the Apple Watch didn't have some degree of water resistance.

I did some more digging and it turns out that picture above comes from the generic Apple Watch section of Apple's website. This would infer that all of the versions will have at least some form of water protection.

"I just spent $350.00 on my Apple Watch Sport, sweat on it, and it broke!!"

I can see the Sport versions being waterproof/resistant. The others (Edition and Watch) more or less resistant like a regular watch

Yeah... makes sense. It's just strange that Apple didn't discuss it at all...

I think that we'll see a full blown presentation on the Apple Watch shortly before it's release date that will address a lot of the unknowns here.

I will say this, it better be waterproof to some extent or it will make plenty of people think twice about getting one

Well if it weren't for what appear to be two small Mic and Speaker holes on the left side, I'd say it looks seamless enough to be waterproof. Now if the phone comes with hole plugs, then 'if' isn't a factor but 'how deep'. Of course my speculation is based on the fact the the design of the Button and the Crown are made in the quality that we would expect.

Maybe the water resistance is a feature that's not yet up to Apple's standards yet, like the battery life.

Not so strange.. with an indefinite release date, they are most likely still testing it (so the solid data isn't there yet) and the pictures could still be prototypes to an extent. Which means they would be giving it time to get up to standards. At least this would be our hope.
